If You've Seen Him...

If you're living in Yishun area, perhaps you'll see this uncle in Chong Pang Market. Other than going there for his lunch, he is there to pick up empty cans. He literally travels from his house to the market all by himself, which I think will take him about 15-20 minutes, it is really not easy for him as one of his leg was amputated.

I still remembered when me and my sister first started to collect the empty cans for him, he actually felt bad about it and expressed his gratitude by buying us tissue papers. I was thinking... he doesn't earn much from selling the empty cans and yet he is willing to spend that few dollars to buy tissue papers for us, which made me felt really bad about it. I've told him subsequently not to buy anything for us because we really did nothing much...

I've seen this uncle approaching customers for empty cans, but there are some who are simply not sympathetic at all, which makes me feel that human beings can be very ugly at times.

So if you've seen him next time and happens to have an empty can with you, bring it to him and I'm sure it'll warm his heart --- at least he knows he is being cared and concern for.

Hi Kat,
I used to live in Yishun from (1984 - 2000) but occasionally I still go back to visit some old friends. Sure I've seen him collecting old drink cans at Chong Pang food centre. My children used to give him their empty cans but I notice he's always very apologetic and grateful.....Sad though.....but on the other hand I do admire him for his self independance...will try to catch up with him when I'm next there. May God bless him and the angels guard him.......Cheers....till then... take care, my friend...

Hi Jen & Xiang Fa,

I'm sure he'll be very happy and touched knowing that all of us still care for him...
